22 Watt Car Subwoofer Amplifier

Circuit Description

     The stereo signals coming from the line outputs of the car radio amplifier are mixed at the input and, after the Level Control, the signal enters the buffer IC1A and can be phase reversed by means of SW1. This control can be useful to allow the subwoofer to be in phase with the loudspeakers of the existing car radio. Then, a 12dB/octave variable frequency Low Pass filter built around IC1B, Q1 and related components follows, allowing to adjust precisely the low pass frequency from 70 to 150Hz. Q2, R17 and C9 form a simple dc voltage stabilizer for the input and filter circuitry, useful to avoid positive rail interaction from the power amplifier to low level sections.
     This unit is intended to be connected to an existing car stereo amplifier, adding the often required extra "punch" to the music by driving a subwoofer. As very low frequencies are omnidirectional, a single amplifier is necessary to drive this dedicated loudspeaker. The power amplifier used is a good and cheap BTL (Bridge Tied Load) 13 pin IC made by Philips (now NXP Semiconductors) requiring a very low parts count and capable of delivering about 22W into a 4 Ohm load at the standard car battery voltage of 14.4V.

Car subwoofer filter circuit

Circuit description:
Here is the circuit diagram of a simple subwoofer filter that can be operated from a 12V DC supply. Such a circuit is very useful in automobile subwoofer applications. The circuit is nothing but a low pass filter whose pass frequency can be adjusted between 60 to 160 Hz. The circuit is designed around the TL072 dual BIFET opamp IC. Out of the two opamps inside the chip, IC1A is wired as a buffer. The left and right audio inputs after mixing is fed to the input of the IC1A using the DPDT switch S1. Switch S1 is the phase control switch which can be used to make the subwoofer in phase with other speakers. When S1 is in position 2, 180 degree phase shift will be induced.POT R7 can be used for controlling the level. IC1B forms the low pass filter whose pass frequency can be controlled by adjusting the dual gang POT R13.

Circuit Features:

The LM386 is a power amplifier designed for use in low voltage consumer applications. What is a subwoofer? Is a dedicated low-frequency speaker cabinet, usually self-amplified, that fills in

the deep, rich bass that is missing from most main speakers. Subwoofers are specialized, and don't reproduce midrange or high frequencies. Most main speakers are passive (unamplified).  Subwoofers usually handle frequencies below 150 Hz or so. 

A quality subwoofer not only reproduces the thrilling deep bass notes with authority. Its presence in the system also allows the receiver / amplifier to reproduce mid-bass and mid-range notes more cleanly. All kinds of instruments, including voices, can be heard more clearly. Why should you add at least one great subwoofer to your system? 

1. Deep bass adds the emotion, the physical feeling of presence and excitement, to a good music or movie performance! One reason that inexpensive speakers sound "just OK" is that they cannot reproduce deep bass very well. 

2. Subwoofers help solve problems in speaker set-up and placement. It's difficult to set the main speakers where they are able to provide realistic imaging, and set them in the best place for bass.  In-wall and in-ceiling speakers can be placed where they work best cosmetically, without concern for their bass reproducing ability, when the system has at least one great subwoofer. 

3. High-quality subwoofers are engineered to generate the massive cone movement required by low bass reproduction. A good subwoofer is specifically designed to generate deep bass. Whether you like jazz, classical, pop or rock, a good system can be made better with a good subwoofer.

1- Operational amplifier TDA2050 which is used in the main amplifier circuit
2- TDA1524 which is used in the pre-amplifier of the circuit.
3- I used the split DC power ±22V as an external supply. The main advantage of the split supply over the single supply is that it is filtered from both sides (+) and (-) terminals and has the proper grounding system which are caused to decrease the output noise of amplifier but u can use single supply too.

Subwoofer Amplifier Circuit 60W

Using the STK4038X audio amplifier IC, can be designed a very simple high power and efficiency audio power amplifier . This circuit is manufactured by Sanyo Corporation and will provide a output power of 60 watts on a 8 ohms load or 4 ohms load with 0.008% distortion . The output power that is provided by this audio IC , can be more higher , but with more distortion.If you will use a 8 ohms load you must power this audio amplifier project from a dual +/- 40 volts DC power supply and if you’ll use a 4 ohms load you must power this audio project form a dual +/- 33.5 volts DC power source. To prevent over heating the STK4038X audio power IC must be heatsinked on a good heatsink . Also you must use a very well filtered power supply ( a 10000uF capacitor will be fine for this audio project) .

Description for Subwoofer filter LM 741:
     If you like I want some more bass in your stereo, you can switch a subwoofer there. This is a speaker that only reflects the bass. Below is a circuit to ensure that the subwoofer gets really only the bass. 
This circuit is used between the signal source (mixer, CD player) and the amplifier. It is an active filter, better than passive filters which are generally mounted behind the amplifier. The circuit is mono because the bass for both channels are equal. The human ear can not yet determine the direction of this bass. 
The first 741 is used as a mixer amplifier. The gain is adjustable with P1. Then, the signal is applied to a second of the order Butterworth-filter. C A(C1 + C2) and C B (C3) can be calculate using the following formulas: where F k , the crossover frequency (the frequency at which filter stops the transmission of sound), pi = 3.1416, R = R3 = R4, F k in Hertz, and C. F. As shown, the filter is now set at 240 Hz. , the supply voltage must be symmetrical, + and - 12-15 V. A suitable diet is the Symmetric mini power supply . If you would like a better sound would have you two 741's replaced by an NE5532. The picture for the layout to be printed at 150DPI (= + / - 33x33mm).

Subwoofer Amplifier

The fins were added to a simple flat aluminium panel, and are made from 20 x 20 x 3mm aluminium angle. Their purpose is threefold - they improve the performance of the plate as a heatsink (although this is not necessary with the BP4078 PWM amp), they make the panel a lot more rigid, and provide essential protection for the volume control and phase switch. It also looks better IMO - it looks like it means business, rather than looking like one of those wimpy 50W plate amps you see advertised.
